Institute for Supply Management’s Index of factory activity rose to 59.4% in September from 53.6% in August. Economists were forecasting a decline to 52.1%. This number will definitely shatter any hope of Fed pause rate hike. With the exception of NASDAQ, Dow and S&P both reverse from positive territory into negative. Market remains in a [...]

With acquisition of Brown and company by E Trade, great earning from Red Hat, and most important of all eased of energy fear, the market is making a strong move upward. I may have to change my short term view from bear to bull.

As anticipated, the market can not sustain the rally this morning and it is now in the negative territory for Nasdaq and Dow. This is very bearish for the market if it closed in the negative.
Hurricanes and the Fed are going to be the one two punch for this market. With the hurricane, I believe the effect will be short term regardless how severe the damages will be to the region. Especially, the downside of Rita is already being baked in to the market. My concern is with the Fed. [...]
With no support from the Fed and the threat from hurricane Rita, stock market is in a downward spiral. Energy sector continues to advance while other sectors are in red especially in discretionary spending stock like Best Buy continues to fall. Home builders are recovering a little today from yesterday’s violent drop.
The fed raised the rate to 3.75 and indicate that it will probably continues to raise rate because of strong underlying economy. The market did not received the news well as Dow down 76, S&P down 9.68, and Nasdaq down 13.93. The home builders and suppliers got hit hard as Lennar drop 4.9 and USG [...]
Fed is meeting today and expected to raise interest rate by .25pt. Does this .25 pt. really makes much difference to the economy? I’m not an economist but if Fed’s intent is to raise the rate before Katrina, then I think it should because the amount of money coming in to rebuild the disaster area [...]
The rumors is that Microsoft is in talk to purchase AOL, or having majority stake, or join venture. Can these two entities benefit each other? On the surface it seems that Microsoft can benefit from gaining access to existing AOL customers and convert them to MSN users. If they like it enough to tell their [...]
on Tuesday, there were a lot of stocks moved up significantly with no news. Stocks like WFMI up about 5 points and AMZN up over 2. There’s feeling of bullish move and people are buying stocks quietly. I anticipate that we’ll break out of the current trading trend in the major indexes.
The market shot up today with moderate volume due to lack of sellers. I think the market can move higher from here for the following reasons. More brokerages continued to express cautious view in the equity market (contrarian). Continue anxiety related to katrina and its impact. The market like to climb a wall of worries [...]
