Market Headed Higher?

With acquisition of Brown and company by E Trade, great earning from Red Hat, and most important of all eased of energy fear, the market is making a strong move upward. I may have to change my short term view from bear to bull.

Dell is taking a bite of Apple

Dell will be announcing its new luxury lines of PCs and laptops today to compete with Apple. I believe it is a good move to capture the better margin segment of the industry. The customers who buy these upper end products look for performance, but most important style.

Genetech, DNA is down again.

Last Friday DNA discontinued enrollment in the Phase II ovarian cancer trial when five out of 44 patients, or 11 percent, given Avastin showed signs of gastrointestinal perforations, a known possible risk that has arisen in 2 percent to 4 percent of patients in previous trials. Stock down 2% on the news. Yesterday, [...]

Stock Market Reverse from Positive to Negative

As anticipated, the market can not sustain the rally this morning and it is now in the negative territory for Nasdaq and Dow. This is very bearish for the market if it closed in the negative.

Nonferrous Metal is the best performing industry.

Best industry in week 9/19/05 to 9/23/05.

Stock Market After Hurricane Rita.

Hurricane Rita didn’t do much damage as it was originally feared as result the oil drop $1 a barrel on Sunday trading. I still think there’s a lot of disruption to oil and refinery production prior to Rita and the exact damage is still unsure. so far we do know one of the [...]

Hurricane Rita Downgrade Eased Fear.

The stock market closed about unchanged today thanks to the downgrade of hurricane Rita from Category 4 to 3. There are bottom fishing buyers that are buying retails and other industries that had been hit hard this past couple of weeks. Healthcare companies surged today because about 9 companies will be able to [...]

Forbes Richest Americans

As usual the top 10 richest Americans stayed the same. With Bill Gate, Warren Buffett, Paul Allen, Michael Dell, Larry Ellison, and 5 Walton family members. Every time I see this list I can’t help but at awe on how powerful Walmart is. New comers to the list have businesses in gaming, [...]

FedEx is flying high!

FedEx had a terrific quarter with 10% growth year over year with revenue growth in every line of its business. Overall the company looks stronger than ever. it also raised guidance for the year to a range between 5.25 to 5.5. The competition from DHL doesn’t look as threatening amost defected customers [...]

Hybrid Sedans and SUVs

With gasoline prices likely to stay high, the hybrid vehicles will be in big demand especially when the competitions drive the prices down. There is no doubt in my mind that Honda and Toyota will continues to beat the GM, Ford, and Chrysler. The Japanese companies are in the lead with the new [...]

Hurricane Rita and the Federal Reserve are the Bears

Hurricanes and the Fed are going to be the one two punch for this market. With the hurricane, I believe the effect will be short term regardless how severe the damages will be to the region. Especially, the downside of Rita is already being baked in to the market. My concern is with [...]

Stock Market continues to braces for Hurricane Rita

With no support from the Fed and the threat from hurricane Rita, stock market is in a downward spiral. Energy sector continues to advance while other sectors are in red especially in discretionary spending stock like Best Buy continues to fall. Home builders are recovering a little today from yesterday’s violent drop.

Market Recap, 9/20/2005

The fed raised the rate to 3.75 and indicate that it will probably continues to raise rate because of strong underlying economy. The market did not received the news well as Dow down 76, S&P down 9.68, and Nasdaq down 13.93. The home builders and suppliers got hit hard as Lennar drop 4.9 [...]

GM continues to roll out big SUV.

GM just introduced its new 2007 Lake Tahoe. It has better interior (looks like German interior) and better fuel efficiency (20+ per gallon). It is a desperate attempt to bring buyers back to its more profitable segment. The trucks sale accounts for more than 60-75% of GM’s profit. I feel GM [...]

Federal Reserve Interest Rate, Going Up or Stay Put?

Fed is meeting today and expected to raise interest rate by .25pt. Does this .25 pt. really makes much difference to the economy? I’m not an economist but if Fed’s intent is to raise the rate before Katrina, then I think it should because the amount of money coming in to rebuild the [...]

Microsoft Network (MSN) and America Online (AOL)

The rumors is that Microsoft is in talk to purchase AOL, or having majority stake, or join venture. Can these two entities benefit each other? On the surface it seems that Microsoft can benefit from gaining access to existing AOL customers and convert them to MSN users. If they like it enough [...]

Best Buy (BBY), Is it still a good buy

Best Buy missed the earning estimate this past quarter with 7.2% decline in entertainment software, DVD, and CDs, but offset by strong flat panel TVs and MP3 sales. The comp. store sales slightly below expectation and guided lower for the third quarter. The company also caution the impact of higher gas prices and [...]

Coffee Anyone?

Starbucks have been moving downward since beginning of the year. It has failed to moved up from a great earning release in July. But I believe we have found some support at $48. This is a great company with excellent management and an innovative work force where Starbucks tap into to create [...]

eBay is ready to talk!

eBay is planning to purchase Skype, a VOIP service provider. Is eBay going to compete with Google and Microsoft? I don’t think so. I’m guessing eBay is trying to improve it infrastructure of communication between buyers and sellers. This channel may help sellers answer questions more efficiently and resolve product and [...]
